Professor John de Laeter was a pioneering physicist who played a key role in establishing Western Australian institutions like Technology Park, the Curtin Science and Mathematics Education Centre, Scitech, and the Gravity Discovery Centre—advancing research and innovation in WA.
At Curtin University, he held senior academic positions, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Development, with his legacy recognized through the John de Laeter Centre for Mass Spectrometry. Honoured as an Officer of the Order of Australia, his work continues to inspire scientific progress in Western Australia.
John de Laeter was a long-time member and former chair of the WA AIP.
